　　《高原皇后》的主题初看是保护山林，但是，若单纯将其视为环保小说，显然是对作品的一种误读——最少也是太浅看了这部作品的内涵。姬家三代五口人为保护山林献出生命，从其行为表象来看，自然有保护环境的球磨机意味，但是，对他们来说，保护山林，事实上意味着保护家园。从这个角度看，他们的行为才能得到合理的解释。因为一个几乎没有受过教育的山里人，之所以会对输送机环保事业如此热衷，原因正是在于护林与保护家园原本是同一内涵。事实上，在小说开始不久，作者就对姬家人的护林行为做了一个隐蔽但又明晰的铺垫。武七嬷的父母因为不容于村民而被迫栖身山林，他们“借森林，回归原始，活的是真实的自我”，“他们的生命、爱情，已与这片森林浑然一体。森林被毁，他们的生命之歌就无有了伴奏，爱情之剧就失去了舞台。”武七嬷的父母过着类似于原始人的生活，他们与自然融合无间，视山林为自己的旋塞阀家，这也是姬家三代对森林的真实感情。他们对于山林的珍爱是混沌的，出于本能的，与环保主义者那种出于清醒意识而产生的使命感完全不同。正因为这种本能，在他人毁林时，姬家人才会有那样非常的举动。也只有如此理解，姬家人的行为才不让人感到突兀，他们的命运才会让人扼腕叹息。

我们还剩下些什么
